Up Next: Video 6 "What is Unconditional Love?" In this video we will explore what the term unconditional love actually means as it relates to our human experience.
Let me share a personal example of how this works. I used to think that I was stupid because I dropped out of school half way through grade 10. I wasn’t a very good student, and I hated most of the school work I was asked to do, so I generally didn’t do it and my marks reflected my lack of effort. I thought I was too dumb to do well in school. It was only 5 years later, when I decided to attend college as a mature student and made the honors roll, that I discovered I wasn’t stupid I was simply unmotivated to learn what my teachers in high school were trying to teach me. When I started learning subjects that interested me I experienced excitement and curiosity and became passionate about learning. My story changed from being stupid, to being unmotivated. My journey going forward wasn’t to stop learning but to identify subjects that interested me. I’ve been a passionate learner ever since.
So let’s try a self-reflection exercise: What qualities and characteristics do you appreciate about yourself? What would you need to do to bring more of these qualities and characteristics into your daily life?
Your identity is the result of what you believe about yourself so I’d like to invite you to become curious about the stories you have been accepting about yourself and see if you may have internalized opinions or judgments that may not accurately reflect the interests, gifts, and abilities that you sense lying within you waiting for your permission to emerge and blossom.
As a Take-away Activity: I’d like to invite you to focus on the qualities and characteristics you want more of in your life and decide what you can do to bring them more actively into your daily life.
